  1. Day 1
    Marrakech to Erg Chigaga

Rise early for a road trip you’ll remember! Today has over seven hours of driving, broken up by photo stops, tea breaks, and constantly changing views. We leave Marrakech and climb into the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, where the road winds past Berber villages. Down the far side we reach Taznakht, famous for its handwoven rugs, and you can stop at a local cooperative to watch the weavers at work. At Foum Zguid the pavement ends and the desert track begins. We head off-road across stony plains and the dry bed of Lake Iriqui until the high dunes of Erg Chigaga appear. Settle into camp, ride a camel at sunset, and enjoy dinner with music around the fire.

  2. Day 2
    Erg Chigaga to Marrakech

Wake early to watch the sun rise over the dunes, then enjoy breakfast in camp. After saying goodbye to the desert, we drive off-road to M’hamid, where the paved road begins again. From here we follow the Draa Valley north, passing palm groves, mud-brick villages, and one of the country’s largest oases. We stop in Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, for a lunch break and a stretch. In the afternoon we cross the High Atlas once more, with a last chance for mountain photos. It’s another long drive, over seven hours in total, but comfortable stops keep it easy. You’ll arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, dusty, happy, and full of stories.
